O.G Ventres "Still Life" circa 1890 (Listed Artist). Subject is demonstrated oil on canvas; a bowl of apples, a pitcher and a wine glass in the background. Some of her work was featured at the second annual exhibition of American oil paintings in 1889 at The Art Institute of Chicago. Many early female painters would take a pseudo name or use initials because it was looked at very differently for women to be artists, authors and writers. This piece is symbolic of a break towards equality. Early art work from artists who paved the way are appreciating. This piece was discovered in a shop in Connecticut recently and purchased as unsigned artwork inside of a frame, only to be discovered upon removal of modern frame. She is also mentioned in the “Who was who American Art 1564-1975” book by: Peter. H Falk and Audrey M. Lewis. Measures: 17" W x 14" H 1" D.
